Statement from Archbishop Bellisario

A Statement from Archbishop Bellisario regarding the report on Theodore McCarrick

On Tuesday, November 10, 2020, the Holy See released the report on the investigation of former U.S. Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick regarding allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct against both minors and adults.  A link to the statement from Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Report from the Vatican is below.  My hope is that by shedding light on this dark chapter, survivors and their families will find hope for healing from this betrayal.

I want to reiterate my sincere apology to all who have experienced abuse by someone representing the church.  To anyone who has been abused, I ask you to consider disclosing what happened to you.  The best way to do so is to report the abuse directly to your local law enforcement agency.

Allegations of abuse or the mishandling of allegations can also be reported through the Catholic Bishop Abuse Reporting Service.  You may also contact the Archdiocese of Anchorage-Juneau Victim Assistance Coordinator at (907) 297-7786 or and we will do our best to help you.

Archbishop Andrew Bellisario, C.M.

Archbishop of Anchorage-Juneau
