The Archdiocese of Anchorage is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016, first with a Mass on Feb. 9 at 6:30 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral and then with a second Mass and community picnic at Our Lady of Guadalupe on May 14, co-hosted with Catholic Social Services.
The Archdiocese will also release a special 50th anniversary book Alaska’s Archdiocese: Faith in the Far North.
This richly illustrated manuscript explores the history of Catholicism in Southcentral Alaska from its earliest beginnings with Spanish explorers, through the Archdiocese’s official establishment in 1966, all the way to the present day.
The limited edition, deluxe hardback book is available for $100. To reserve a copy contact Laurie Evans-Dinneen, at (907) 297-7789 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
A softcover release will be available to the public at a launch party in April. The cover features original paintings of Holy Family Cathedral and Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral by celebrated Alaska artist Byron Birdsall.
