Sister Maria Marta Luciana Barba Dies
Sister Maria Marta Luciana Barba, A.P., one of the six Sisters of Perpetual Adoration of the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament passed to our Lord’s eternal rest at 12:15pm today on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
There will be a public viewing at the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament, 2645 East 72nd Ave, Anchorage, from 4–7pm on Wednesday, August 17th when the Very Reverend Donald Bramble, O.P., Vicar General will lead a Vigil Service at 7pm. Following the Vigil, viewing will continue until 9pm when the Monastery doors will close to the public.
The Most Reverend Francis Hurley celebrates a Mass of Christian burial at 8am on Thursday, August 18th at the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament. Concelebrating priests should contact Fr. Tom Lilly and bring alb and white stole.
Burial will be immediately following in the new Catholic section of Anchorage Memorial Cemetery. Sister Marta will once again be a “pioneer” as she becomes the first person to be buried in the new section. At the request of the Sisters, there will be no post-burial reception. May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
