Catholic Campaign for Human Development
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic bishops.
Its mission is to address the root causes of poverty in America through promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education.
The grants, economic development, and education for justice programs of the Campaign, implemented in collaboration with local dioceses, are supported from an annual collection in U.S. Catholic parishes. For more information see www.usccb.org/cchd.

Local Grants
Parishes across the Archdiocese of Anchorage contribute each November to a national CCHD collection. Twenty-five percent of that collection remains in the diocese for local projects. Local grants are available from the Archdiocese of Anchorage in two areas:
- Community Organizing grants support groups that gather, educate and empower low-income individuals and congregations to work together for lasting social change. Such groups often address problems in particular neighborhoods and communities, working together to influence public opinion and receive commitment for action from civic officials, businesses, etc. Economic Development grants help develop business enterprises that create opportunities for low-income people to learn job skills, work and share in the profits of their labor.
- Youth Grants. Grants up to $250 are available to youth projects
such as:
- Parish education on the mission and work of CCHD.
- Educating the community on the needs of the poor.
- Building partnerships between parishes and low-income communities
Applications for local grants can be obtained from Sister Charlotte Davenport, charlotte.davenport@caa-ak.org.
