Living the Gospel
Go and Make Disciples!
Growing in Our Faith: All of us are becoming better disciples as we
grow in our personal relationship with the Lord in the Community of the
Catholic Church.
Sharing Our Faith: Welcome and invite others to learn about and share in the Catholic Faith
and encounter Jesus Christ in the sacraments.
Making the World a Better Place: Change society with the power of the Gospel as Disciples in Mission.
This is how all will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another — John 13:35.
Witness as Disciples of Christ
Pope John Paul II teaches that evangelization means connecting the
Gospel with the materialistic culture of this secular, permissive,
post-Christian era. This new era of the third Christian millennium
faces new problems, challenges, and transformations. The effort to
proclaim anew to this culture who Jesus Christ is requires: “A commitment
not to re-evangelization but to a ‘new’ evangelization — new
in ardor, methods, and expression”
(Ecclesia
in America, #6, quoted in Spreading the Holy
Fire).
Every dimension of the Church’s life and ministry, whether directly
or indirectly, must have evangelization as its goal… everything
else is secondary. Unless our efforts - at every level, but
especially that of the parish - are consciously aimed at conversion,
both inward and outward, through the power of the message entrusted
to us, we will only spin our wheels
(Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago, Spreading the
Holy Fire).
