<strong>March 14 │Death Penalty Presentation</strong> - St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will host a presentation on the Death Penalty by a man held on death row for 19 years for a murder he did not commit. Sunday, March 14 at 1:00 p.m, join Curtis E. McCary, a guest of Alaskans Against the Death Penalty, as he speaks at St. Elizabeth’s.  This event is free and open to the community. Refreshments will follow.</p>

<p><strong>March 19 │ The Cyrene Group, offering support for widowed persons,</strong> will gather at St. Patrick's Parish, 2111 Muldoon Rd. to join in the celebration of St. Patrick's Day Feast on Friday, March 19, 2010, 6:30pm for dinner and show. <strong>March 21 │Archbishop Hurley 40th Anniversary </strong>- Archbishop Hurley will celebrate the noon Mass on March 21 at Holy Family Cathedral in honor of his 40th Anniversary as a bishop.  A reception will follow at the Holy Family Center provided by the Catholic Daughters. </p>

<p><strong>March 27 │The Consecration to Jesus through His Blessed Mother </strong>(the Acies) will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 2111 Muldoon Road, Anchorage, on March 27, 2010, Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm to 3:30pm.  A reception in the Parish Hall will follow.  The Legion of Mary invites everyone to this special event.</p>

Any single woman (including high school students) who might be curious about religious life, has questions or simply wants to understand more is invited to join us on Wednesday, April 7 at 6:00pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. The Listening Post of Anchorage is a ministry of presence in the Downtown Transit Center (bus station) where the weary, lonely, burdened or broken can find a cup of tea, a quiet place to pray or meditate and trained volunteers to companion them in silence or listen to their story.  We don't counsel, preach or give advice but instead practice active, compassionate listening.  Volunteers from all walks of life are trained by spiritual directors and work in pairs. <p>The Holy Family Cathedral young adults (men and women, single and married, aged 18-39) invite others throughout the diocese to join them for their weekly activities:</p>

<p>- <strong>Wednesdays</strong> they meet at 7:00pm in the Holy Family Center (on 5th Avenue, west of the cathedral) for discussions of Catholic moral teachings.  No preparation is necessary.  Upcoming topics include: artificial conception, prolonging life, capital punishment, divorce and remarriage, contraception, homosexuality, social justice, warfare, church membership, priest celibacy, ordination of women, authority in the church, and conscience. </p>

<p>- <strong>Fridays, </strong>from 7 to 8pm, young adults are especially invited to deepen their relationship with Christ during "Christ in the City," an evening of Eucharistic adoration and benediction at Holy Family Cathedral.  Twice per month, they gather to socialize afterward.  The next social activity at 8:00pm will be on March 12.  What better way to end the week than spending an hour with Jesus and socializing with other Catholic adults?<br />

Join us for weekly discussions of theological texts by Monsignor Luigi Guissani.  No preparation necessary.  Food and socializing begin at 6:30pm. </p>

<p><strong>On Fridays,</strong> from 7 to 8:00pm, young adults are especially invited to deepen their relationship with Christ during "Christ in the City," an evening of Eucharistic adoration and benediction at Holy Family Cathedral.  Twice per month, they gather to socialize afterward.  The next social activity at 8:00pm will be on March 12.  What better way to end the week than spending an hour with Jesus and socializing with other Catholic adults? </p>

It will review their tragic conflicts from the 1st through 20th century.  It will explore and model recent efforts at establishing dialogue.  Taking account of the different interpretations between their shared and distinctive traditions, the course will address the difficult issues between these two believing communities.  The course will also examine some of the contemporary challenges in which the religious perspectives and traditional resources of these communities offer important insights and correctives to the contemporary world.    7:00pm-9:20pm - Credits: 2 Instructor: Rabbi Michael Oblath, Ph.D. and Regina Boisclair, Ph.D.,  </p>

<p><strong>February 2 – May 4 │Foundations of Islam   </strong> RS 202-  The course will travel from pre-Islamic Arabia to the contemporary Muslim world. It will explore the beliefs, practices, history, and cultures of Islam while inviting students to identify resources for further self-directed study and reflection.  The first two meetings course will overview Islam and the Qu’an. Subsequent classes will in part be determined by the issues identified by participants on the first night. Taking account of the different interpretations between their shared and distinctive traditions, the course will address the difficult issues between these two believing communities. <p><strong>February 2 – May 4 │Foundations of Islam   </strong> RS 202-  The course will travel from pre-Islamic Arabia to the contemporary Muslim world. The first two meetings course will overview Islam and the Qu’an. Subsequent classes will in part be determined by the issues identified by participants on the first night. Alaska's prisons are filling at a startling rate, but as they do Catholic clergy and laity are bringing the light of Christ past the razor wire fences and armed officers.  Theology & Brew invites you to an evening of inspiring stories by some of the priests and deacons in Alaska who have seen desperate prisoners transformed by Christ.  Father Tom Brundage and Deacon Curt Luenberger will share how Catholics are increasingly reaching out to prison populations across the Southcentral Alaska.  Theology & Brew is free and open to the public. It is a program of the Archdiocese of Anchorage that explores relevant faith-based issues while enjoying good food and drink. <![CDATA[<p><strong>December 26  │  Lumen Alumni High School Gathering </strong>- Lumen Alumni community are invited to a gathering on Saturday, December 26.  The location will be at Father Moore’s home right after the 5:00pm Mass at St. Benedict’s.  His house is in the rectory, behind the church, at 8110 Jewel Lake Road.  We hope we are reaching everyone, but please extend our invitation to any other alumni you know.  There will be food, good company, and perhaps a story or two that somehow didn’t make it into the yearbook.  Many of your former teachers and friends’ parents will be there waiting to hear how life is treating you. <p><strong>December 28 │ HOLY INNOCENTS EUCHARISTIC VIGIL</strong>:  Monday, December 28 is the feast of the Holy Innocents, the children martyred by Herod in pursuit of the Christ Child. In reparation for contraception, abortion, and other sins against family and children throughout the world, the Legion of Mary will host a Eucharistic vigil at Holy Family Cathedral, beginning with the Mass of the Holy Innocents at noon, celebrated by Archbishop Schwietz, OMI.  Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin after Mass, with a rosary every hour and the Divine Mercy chaplet at 3:00pm. The vigil will conclude with Benediction after 5:00pm. Vespers with the Dominican community.  Venite Adoremus!</p>

<p><strong>January 2-3 │Christmas Tree pick up!</strong>  The world youth Day group from Holy Cross will be picking up trees at homes or businesses between 9am and 5pm on Saturday January 2 and Sunday January 3. Extra help is available for elderly, sick, and disabled, please notify us ahead of time when scheduling pickup. If you would like morning pick up and will not be available, please place your donation (Checks made payable to Holy Cross) in an envelope and attach it to your tree, and place it curbside by 9:00am Saturday or Sunday January 2 or 3. Suggested Donations: ($10-$25 per tree/ Recycling preparations: remove all lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails and stands from the tree, wreath or swag. <p><strong>January 2-3 │Christmas Tree pick up!</strong>  The world youth Day group from Holy Cross will be picking up trees at homes or businesses between 9am and 5pm on Saturday January 2 and Sunday January 3. Extra help is available for elderly, sick, and disabled, please notify us ahead of time when scheduling pickup. If you would like morning pick up and will not be available, please place your donation (Checks made payable to Holy Cross) in an envelope and attach it to your tree, and place it curbside by 9:00am Saturday or Sunday January 2 or 3. Suggested Donations: ($10-$25 per tree/ Recycling preparations: remove all lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails and stands from the tree, wreath or swag. <p><strong>December 8  │National Night of Prayer for Life</strong> - Tuesday, December 8 - 8pm to midnight - The Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Members of the pro-life community are invited to attend all or any part of a four hour period of prayer at our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. There will be adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, hymns, the rosary, special prayers and silent meditation offered on behalf of human life in all of its stages. From 8 to 9pm we will be participating in an hour of UNITY with Americans in all time zones across the Continental United States as we pray together to rid this Nation of the evils of legal abortion and euthanasia.
