Simbang Gabi 2009 │ SIMBANG GABI is one of the longest and most popular among the Filipino traditions in the country. Simbang Gabi is a nine-day novena to the Blessed Mother. The novena begins December 16. The schedule for Anchorage:

December 22 │St. Benedict - Tuesday at 6pm
December 23 │St. Patrick - Wednesday at 5:30pm

January 2-3 │Christmas Tree pick up! The world youth Day group from Holy Cross will be picking up trees at homes or businesses between 9am and 5pm on Saturday January 2 and Sunday January 3. Extra help is available for elderly, sick, and disabled, please notify us ahead of time when scheduling pickup. If you would like morning pick up and will not be available, please place your donation (Checks made payable to Holy Cross) in an envelope and attach it to your tree, and place it curbside by 9:00am Saturday or Sunday January 2 or 3. Suggested Donations: ($10-$25 per tree/ Recycling preparations: remove all lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails and stands from the tree, wreath or swag. Please contact Theresa Austin at 349-8388 to make arrangements for pickup.

January 9 │ Have you ever wondered about being a religious sister? The Adrian Dominican Sisters in Anchorage invite you to a Day of Discernment on January 9, 2010 from 10:00-2:00. January 26 │ Healing Service with Mass: A healing service for individual and generational family healing will take place in the Resurrection Chapel at Holy Spirit Center on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 7-8:30pm. The service will invoke the Holy Spirit and Our Lady, Mother of Nations, with optional laying on of hands and Anointing of the Sick.

February 13 │Mardi Gras Gala - Lumen Christi High School invites you to their 15th Annual Gala & Auction on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Egan Civic and Convention Center. The Holy Family Cathedral young adults (men and women, single and married, aged 18- 39) invite others throughout the diocese to join them for their weekly activities:

- On Wednesdays they meet at 7:00pm in the parish office conference room (ring the doorbell on 6th Ave.) for a Bible study (no preparation necessary).

- On Fridays they gather at 7:00pm for an hour of prayer and Eucharistic adoration at the cathedral, followed by a social outing at 8:00pm. What better way to end the week than spending an hour with Jesus and socializing with other Catholic adults?

January 11- February 8 │ Jesus at the Movies Monday & Wednesday 6:00-9:10pm Observer fee $100. Extra charge for Professional Academic Credit. This course will view and review selections from movies about Jesus. Participants will be encouraged to view whole films at home. We will read and discuss the four canonical gospels, a selection of non-canonical texts and Jesus of Hollywood by Adele Reinharts (Oxford, 2007). The course will explore how these movies tell us as much if not more about the times in which they were produced than the story and times of Jesus. Regina A. Boisclair, Ph.D. LS292- 2 credits

January 11 – February 8 │ Foundations of Christianity Monday & Wednesday 9:00-12:10am Observer fee $100. Extra charge for Professional Academic Credit. This course will review the history, beliefs and practices of those communities that identify themselves as Christian. It will explore the vast variety of Christianities that co-exist in Anchorage and encourage participants to experience the various kinds of Christian worship. Our weekend workshops are open to anyone interested in exploring adoption and is required if you are applying for adoption through Catholic Social Services. January 15-17 │ The Legion of Mary is holding its annual silent retreat on January 15-17, 2010, at Holy Spirit Center in Anchorage. Retreat Master is Msgr. O’Connell of Blessed Sacrament Shrine in Washington, D.C. Cost of the retreat includes meals and lodging: $230 single or $175 double occupancy per person. Open to everyone but space is limited. January 22 - January 26 │Silent Centering Prayer Retreat - This retreat will include communal Centering Prayer sits, a Taize prayer Service, Lectio Divinia, video presentations of Fr.
