August 26 │St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School: Opening Mass - St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Elementary will begin the school year with an opening Mass held at SEAS Church at 9:30 am, all are welcome.

August 26 │ We invite you to join Archbishop Roger Schwietz, O.M.I. and the religious of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate on Tuesday, August 26 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Learn about the Oblates’ works on the Kenai Peninsula and their diverse worldwide ministries as they often go where others dare not. The program and refreshments will follow a 6 p.m. Mass. August 27 │ Please join us for an Evening with the Oblates on Wednesday, August 27 at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Soldotna. A program about the Oblates of Mary Immaculate will offer a closer look at the worldwide ministries of the 500 priests and brothers who serve in the United States as part of the worldwide order that has 4,500 religious. August 26-September 18 │The Gospel of Mark (Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 - 9:30 PM) Regina Boisclair Ph.D., Professor. This course will engage in a critical analysis and peculiar features of Mark’s good news of Jesus, Son of God. Special concern will be given to differences between Mark’s social location and that of his 21st century readers.
August 25-September 22 │Foundations of Hinduism (Mondays and Thursdays at 7:00 - 9:20 PM) Alfred Collins, Ph.D., Professor. Hinduism might be described as a quest to attain the real self and overcome attachment to a false or unreal sense of self. This course will explore the pathways this search has taken over the past 3500 years.

September 12 & 13│KENAI: Generations of Faith : Lifelong Faith Formation for the Whole Parish Community This Workshop led by Leif Kehrwald from the Center for Ministry Development will introduce participants to the vision and practices of lifelong, intergenerational faith formation, guide the development and implementing of lifelong curriculum for the whole parish community, teach parish leadership skills for facilitating intergenerational learning and will provide planning resources. The workshops will be held from 9:00am - 3:30pm (both Friday & Saturday), Cost for this training is $100.00 per person. Lodging is available at the Tanglewood B&B at $50.00 per night. October 3-5│ Koinonia weekend will be offered at Holy Spirit Center Oct. 3-5th. This weekend, which is offered for all adults, concentrates on the Paschal mystery: the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. Koinonia (a Greek term meaning community) emphasizes that the Church is a community of baptized believers who know they are set apart to proclaim the Gospel and to serve all people in a healing way. This concept of Church is communicated to the group not only through talks, discussions and activities, but also through the team and participants being Church. September 6│Saturday Sacrament Series: Baptism & Confirmation - This four course series will begin Saturday, September 6th from 9:00 am to Noon at Holy Spirit Center. Each month through December we will focus on a specific Sacrament (or two) reflecting on the history, validity, preparation and spirituality of the Sacraments. With the newly released Sacramental & Catechetical Guidelines for the Archdiocese of Anchorage this is a fantastic opportunity for all of us to review these wonderful gifts that bring God present in our lives. Please join Catholic Social Services for Expressions of Refugee Youth Photography Exhibit at the next First Friday on September 5, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at the Downtown Starbucks, 601 W. 5th Avenue. The photographs were inspired by 12 young artist’s impressions and reflections of themselves, their communities and their families.
