VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Lumen Christi High School is in the process of preparing and organizing their library in order to offer students the opportunity to enhance their studies through research via technology as well as the wealth of books now available to them. To make this happen, the school needs retired or other volunteer librarians to assist in the cataloguing of books and keeping the library in appropriate order. Our goal is to have automated cataloging and all in readiness for an active library in September ’08 and continued service into the future.

Currently there are two volunteers who give one-half day per week in the school library. Our hope is that others who have the knowledge and time will grant us a full day or less to complete the time schedule for each school day – Monday through Friday. Please call Shannon Jones, Asst. March 1 | Outdoor Stations of the Cross for Lent - Bring a spirit of adventure and awe for a luminaria-lit walk of the Stations of the Cross through the woods at Holy Spirit Center. After the Stations, the group will gather in Resurrection Chapel for Hot cocoa and Taize prayer by candle light. Bring snowshoes if you have them. Youth and RCIA groups are most welcome. Male mentors for Catholic Social Services’ Charlie Elder House are needed to offer teens the chance to develop a relationship with one or more adults, other than caregivers and teachers, who become friends, role models and advocates for them. Mentoring can take several forms, including tutoring, career exploration, life skills development, game playing and going to sports, entertainment or cultural events. Catholic Social Services' Refugee Assistance and Immigration Services will soon be welcoming families from Darfur, Togo, Mali and the Congo. These families are victims of civil war. January 20 │“What Everyone Needs to Know About Islam” - In response to feedback from previous events in the Engaging Muslims: Religion, Cultures, Politics, Dr. Regina Boisclair, Cardinal Newman Chair of Theology at Alaska Pacific University and members of the Islamic Community Center of Anchorage Alaska will offer a two-part program, “What Everyone Needs to Know About Islam” on January 20 2007 2:00-4:30 p.m. in room 307 of the Consortium Library on the campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage (parking at UAA is free on Sundays). Part One (2:00-3:00 p.m.) will consists of presentations concerning the Foundational Beliefs, Practices and Understandings of Islam. Part Two (3:15-4:30p.m.) will consist of a panel to answer questions from the audience. This program is part of Engaging Muslims: Religion, Cultures, Politics, a community education program sponsored by the Cardinal Newman Chair to promote dialogue and understanding in the Anchorage community

Ted will share his insight and humor as he leads the participants to a deeper understanding of what it means to be a disciple. Using the Gospel of Matthew, participants will study his reflections on discipleship, learn what to expect on this path, and how to grow in discipleship. Director of Youth Ministry: Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, a vibrant 1,400 family faith community in Anchorage, Alaska, is seeking a faithful and passionate Catholic who loves Jesus and His Church and is called vocationally to the young church, for full time employment as the Director of Youth Ministry. The successful candidate will be one who strives to lead a life of personal holiness and expresses a heartfelt desire to lead teens closer to the heart of our Lord.
