John Pawlikowski, O.S.M., Professor of Ethics, Director of the Catholic-Jewish Studies Program, Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, will present a Free Public Lecture, Sunday, September 3 @ 7:00 PM at Alaska Pacific University in the Carr Gottstein Building, Room 102. John Pawlikowski is a leading figure in the Christian-Jewish dialogue. Newman Chair Offerings Fall 2006 | The Cardinal Newman Chair at Alaska Pacific University welcomes interested members of the community to some classes as “Observers” for a nominal fee (generally $100). Although no college credit is given, observers may participate in class at whatever level they feel comfortable.
The Fall courses for 2006 offered by Dr. Regina A. Boisclair are:
Epistles of Paul (Thursday mornings 9:00a.m.-11:30, Grant Hall 312 September 28-December 14, 2006);
Luke/Acts (Tuesday evenings 7:00-9:30 p.m. Grant Hall 228 October 3-December 12, 2006). The fee for each of these courses is $100. Come early to register and bring a Bible. CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICES

Thank you for supporting the HUGSS (Helping Us Give School Supplies) & Coats for Kids project. With your support Catholic Social Services and its community partners were able to serve 5,322 kids from low-income households. The goal of this project was not only to provide basic supplies and a warm coat but to foster an excitement for learning that will be life-long.

Mileage Donation Needed for Brother Francis Shelter Fundraiser. The Blues for My Brother event will be held November 11, 2006. This event benefits Brother Francis Shelter / Anchorage, a program of Catholic Social Services that serves homeless adults. Mileage is needed to bring up additional Blues talent. H.U.G.S.S. [Helping Us Give School Supplies] & Coats for Kids project needs volunteers. Distribution of school supplies and coats to children from low-income households will be August 10 & 11, 2006. H.U.G.S.S., a collaborative community partnership, helps to prepare Anchorage kids for a successful school year by not only providing basic supplies, but also fosters a life-long excitement for learning. Effective immediately, clothing and furniture will be distributed at Bishop’s Attic through a voucher system. This allows SFH to expand its food pantry and fight hunger more aggressively. Please take all non-food donations directly to Bishop’s Attic at 1100 Gambell Street between the hours of 9am–5:30pm Monday thru Saturday. SFH can no longer accept non-food donations.

August 13 │HEALING SERVICE - Holy Spirit Center invites all who need healing (physical, emotional, psychic and spiritual) to celebrate God’s healing during a service in Resurrection Chapel on Sunday evening, 7:00 p.m., August 13. Clara Miyazaki, gifted with a marvelous healing ministry, will pray with us. Her ministry has taken her across North America and her native Japan, to Europe and to Mother Teresa’s community in Calcutta, India. Fathers Beuzer and Nigro – S.J. will also be available during the service to celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. A team will be available after the service to pray further with people.
